The Story Behind This Task

You have…

a pen pal with whom you are corresponding via email about ‘What if…’ situations.

‘What if…’ situations are hypothetical. You could get be inspired by a movie, series, game or book.

With writing to your pen pal you present your ‘What if…’ idea and ask your pen pal to reply.

In this Task you will suggest a ‘What if…’ idea to your pen pal and you will answer a pen pal with an email about their ‘What if…’.

‘What if…’ questions can be about anything. ‘What if cars could fly?’ or ‘What if money did not exist?’.
It’s all about you pitching your idea to somebody else, asking them for a reply. And about you replying to someone else’s idea.

Two produce phases then, in which you will get feedback from peers (your classmates) and your teacher. If you follow the steps carefully, you will be sure to hand in a nice portfolio at the end of the Task.

Basically, you are going to write 2 emails:

One pitching your own ‘What if…’ idea and one responding to that of another. Of course all ideas need to be respectful of others.

During the task you will:

  • Practise giving and receiving feedback;
  • Improve on feedback;
  • Explain your ideas;
  • Practise using certain vocabulary, and
  • Practise using certain grammar forms.
