    • Mention key parts of your novel (plot, characters, themes).
    • Explain who your target audience is (who would want to read your book).
    • Convince the author that your book is worth publishing.

Mining Expeditions

A literary agent!

You are…
A literary agent!

After successfully getting your first book published, you are now working with other writers to help them publish their books. You’ve been given a manuscript by a new author, and it’s your job to create a pitch to present to a publishing house. A pitch is a short, persuasive summary that explains why the publisher should accept the book.

For this task:

  1. Choose a different book (not the one you used in the previous task) that you have read for English. Imagine you are now the literary agent responsible for getting this book published.
  2. Write a pitch to a publisher in which you:
    • Summarize the key elements of the book (plot, characters, themes) in a brief and engaging way.
    • Explain why this book will be successful in the market (e.g., what makes it unique, who will want to read it, and why it will sell well).
    • Convince the publisher that they should publish the book.

Key points to include:

  • Hook: A catchy sentence or two that grabs attention (why this book is special).
  • Summary: A short paragraph summarizing the plot and main characters.
  • Market Appeal: Explain who the target audience is and why this book will interest them.
  • Closing Statement: Finish with a strong, persuasive statement about why the publisher should not miss out on this opportunity.
